United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF)
Kavanaugh’s active youth program is based on the traditional
UMYF model – with 21st century ideas.
Youth enjoy a variety of learning experiences mixed with fun and
team building events. Occasional mission projects help youth put
their Christian teaching into action. They are encouraged to recognize
that they are a vital part of the church and its ministry to all
the world.
We have visited museums, the Dallas World Aquarium, and gone to the Mercy Me concert. We also have cookouts and lock-ins.
UMYF meets twice a month on Sunday evenings. (Please call 903-455-2869
for scheduled meetings.)

Confirmation Classes
In preparation for becoming full members of the church, 7th graders
meet with the minister weekly from September through December for
Confirmation Classes.
Class members explore what Methodists believe, what it means to
be a member of the church, and how personal commitment to Christ
will guide and enrich their lives as they grow up in the church.

Mission Trips
Kavanaugh high school students take a mission trip each year, extending
a helping hand to others to share the love of Christ with the world
around them.
In July of 2009 our youth group traveled to Galveston, TX to help with Hurricane Ike Relief. We spent a week with Team Effort roofing a house. We plan on useing the same group and traveling to Tenessee summer of 2010. Everyone is welcome to join the youth missions.

Leadership
Kavanaugh members recognize that our youth are not just tomorrow’s
leaders – they can lead today!
We encourage our students to utilize their gifts and hone the talents
they will need to succeed as active Christians in an increasingly
secular world, remembering that everyone at Kavanaugh is a minister
– especially when they leave the building!
Young people serve as Liturgists during the worship service. They
help with setup for church dinners and breakfasts and take a turn
at preparing and serving meals at the Solid
Rock Café. They also help with the annual church garage
sale. Many are recognized for their leadership roles at school and
in local organizations.

Summer
Camp
Summer camps held at Bridgeport Methodist Camps are open to 6th
-12th graders during June and July.
The Bridgeport
Camp & Conference Center overlooks beautiful Lake Bridgeport,
40 miles west of Denton, Texas. Campers live in air-conditioned
cabins and enjoy a pool, athletic field, volleyball & basketball
courts, walking trails, and outdoor worship areas.
In addition to Junior and Senior High programs, there are Music
& Art Camps in June, as well as special sessions for urban youth
and special needs campers.
A limited number of partial, need-based scholarships are awarded
each year.
